I don't think it's the Leather or metal that changes the sound I would say it's the pressure plate that makes the difference. She wanted an older sax but not too old because of price for one and also, from what we’ve read, the finger action on older ones seem to be harder (or at least different) for someone her age. Forestone has a new White Bamboo endorser, a classical saxophonist named Taewook Ahn. I listened to some of his pre-Forestone recordings, and he is very good. CSU, Long Beach (now the Cole Conservatory) has had a large Saxophone Ensemble for the past 25+ years. It was started by Leo Potts in the early 80's and is currently conducted by Jay Mason. It is Bass through Soprano and has anywhere from 12 to 20 or more saxophonists.Don't forget in 2016 Selmer came out with new reeds in a Blue Plastic container. The alto reeds were $24.99 and tenor $26.99 from KesslerMusic. The Omega's I bought in the late 1980s with the clear plastic top. I have several of the fuzzy brown boxes from the 1960s too. If you ever try to play a real sax, your sound and embouchure is like 70% of playing and you won't be developing that on the 120. Most modern pads have some degree of waterproofing (and sealing of any porosity - apart from kangaroo pads). When badly done it is sticky; when well done it is not stick, and it is very successful. I can understand dye for a visual point of difference, but not paint.
